Design Game® is an innovative research instrument by means of which consumers and designers are brought together for the purpose of creating new ideas for products and packaging. Design Game® is a joint initiative by FLEX/theINNOVATIONLAB and Blauw Research. FLEX/theINNOVATIONLAB is a well-established name in the Dutch industrial design sector.
How does it work?
A board game is used to create consumer teams whose task is to work together in answering questions and carrying out specific assignments. Their answers provide insight into attitudes and behaviour and reveal bottlenecks and challenges relating to the design that is being researched. The assignments given while playing the game aim to create solutions for the established bottlenecks and challenges. Each team has a designer who is capable of translating those ideas into concrete concepts.
What does it provide?
Design Game® provides detailed and surprising insights, ideas and concepts in a report that focuses on charting useable consumer insights. These insights are represented by the material (words and illustrations) produced while playing the game.
The best moment to use Design Game® is during the first stages of design. This is when the generation of ideas based on real bottlenecks and challenges and the input provided by real consumers is most vital.
Every organisation involved in the development of new products and packaging can profit from using Design Game® . Manufacturers of FMCG products, sustainable consumer products and industrial machinery have already successfully applied Design Game®, among which clients such as PepsiCo, Unilever, Sara Lee, LEGO, Bacardi, Brabantia, InBev, Tennant and Tefal.
