To gain more control over baggage flows, Transavia, like other airlines, is going to charge a fee for taking luggage into the cabin. But what is a reasonable fee? To determine this, we conducted a conjoint analysis for Transavia among travellers.
Fast boarding is crucial for airlines, as a shorter ground turnaround time results in higher returns. However, loading hand luggage takes up valuable time, as demand always exceeds cabin space, resulting in some items being moved to the hold at the last minute before departure.
Transavia is therefore, like other airlines, going to apply a fee for taking luggage into the cabin. Through a conjoint analysis, we provided insight into the value of taking luggage into the cabin compared to other factors such as the weight and cost of hold luggage.
For travellers, there are significant differences in the types of trips they take and how they view paying for luggage. For example, the difference between a city trip or a sun holiday.
“Through a conjoint analysis, Blauw assisted us in the decision-making process regarding the introduction of Full Paid Hand Luggage in combination with offering hold luggage, taking both weight and price into consideration. We look back on a pleasant collaboration where the focus was on achieving the best results.”
